  • the cutest thing you’ve seen today!

Sometimes it pays to be patient.  Three years ago when I went to Jasper on the annual camping adventure with my parents, I really wanted to get a picture of a mountain goat, just because I didn’t have one and I like taking pictures of animals.  It’s good to have goals, but no mountain goats…

  • a trip to the camera store in Jasper…

This is one of my favourite pics I took while camping in Jasper National Park.  After supper one night, we drove from Whistlers Campground to Jasper to check out the camera store.  It was closed, so we decided to go on an evening wildlife viewing drive in the Jasper Park Lodge area. While leaving town,…

  • Astotin Lake Sunset

Astotin Lake at Elk Island National Park  in Alberta (approximately 45 minutes east of Edmonton) on the last night of my annual camping adventure with my parents… We saw a lot of wildlife while we were in Jasper National Park (I’ll share pics in upcoming posts), but the best sunset of the trip was at…

  • Maligne Lake boat house

Of the sightseeing we did in Jasper, Maligne Lake was my favourite stop. I think I may even prefer it to Lake Louise which I wasn’t expecting. It’s still a very touristy spot, but has a more relaxed atmosphere, and of course, the scenery is beautiful. The bonus of a cloud-filled sky made for pretty…

  • Maligne Lake

Maligne Lake in Jasper National Park…black bears galore on the drive up!

  • This week’s view

View from the campsite at Jasper National Park… home for the next week…

  • go!

“It’s opener, out there, in the wide, open air.” ― Dr. Seuss, Oh, The Places You’ll Go! Whether by plane.. or by train… Maybe by boat… But very likely by car… Whatever direction you choose… Just go somewhere this summer! (All this to say I’m looking forward to camping in Jasper very soon!)

  • Great Bear Rainforest inlet reflection

In my last post, I said that a lot of the pictures I took in the Great Bear Rainforest two years ago were of reflections in the water….this is one of my favourites.  It’s such a beautiful place, far off the beaten path (which, truth be told, was a bit of an odd feeling). Some…

  • look at that face

An animal’s eyes have the power to speak a great language. – Martin Buber I’m not a vegetarian. I like crispy bacon and juicy steaks and bison burgers and chicken fajitas, and I’m not opposed to people who hunt in order to have meat in their freezer, but I am strongly opposed to hunting for…

  • beauty of open space

The question is not what you look at, but what you see. – Thoreau I don’t understand people who don’t see the beauty of the prairies! So, if you’re not from here, and you happen to be driving through Saskatchewan on your summer vacation, veer off the TransCanada Highway for a bit on a grid…

  • bleeding heart

Today’s find – these pretty bleeding heart.  I’m always happy to come across something I’ve never photographed before (I found these in a nice spring flower garden on the east side of the Legislative Building this afternoon).

  • conserve water

This may not be a common sight in Regina for the next little while since we’re being asked to conserve water because of a water quality issue. The first call to conserve water went out on Monday (I took this pic on Sunday!) and apparently there’s been no significant reduction in the amount of water…
