A glimpse of the Banff Springs Hotel (someday I’ll stay here, but a visit to the Rundle Lounge in the Hotel is the next best thing!)
And further down the road, a sliver of beautiful Lake Louise….
Since this is the first of my favourite places I’ve visited (having camped in Banff as a little kid), it’s probably at the top of the list followed by New Orleans, Maui, and Tofino/Ucluelet. Where to next, that’s what’s on my mind – somewhere new, perhaps.
…a classic Canadian scene…Lake Louise, late October 2012
Just some pretty tulips spotted by the Chateau Lake Louise sign (I was happier with this picture than with the pictures I took of Lake Louise, actually).
It seemed like every tourist in the Banff area decided to visit Lake Louise today. It was busy!!! But, also beautiful. Someday, I went to spend the night at the Chateau Lake Louise.
Some days you just need your happy place. I have a few..

I’ve been on some pretty cool drives in North America – Maui’s Road to Hana, the Beartooth Highway outside Yellowstone, and Port Alberni to Tofino on Vancouver Island. They all are amazing in their own way and the drive between Banff and Lake Louise is no exception. Banff will always be one of my favourite places because of scenery like this:
There is an abundance of wildlife in Banff National Park and there is also a major highway (The TransCanada) running through the park connecting Banff and Lake Louise. In order to to give the bears, wolves, elk, moose and all the other wildlife an opportunity to move safely throughout the park there are many underpasses and a few overpasses especially for them.
(So no these are not pedestrian friendly!)
